Teaching Speaking

 Well, hello there! 馃憖

How's life treating you? I hope you're doing well.

You know, in class there are different types of students. There are students who are outgoing and like to participate and there are others who are just the opposite. They are quiet, shy and don't like to participate (that's me haha). When teaching a language, it is necessary for them to practice it in order to improve their skills. But, if they are afraid to participate, how are they going to improve?

This topic caught my attention and I did some research and I found a series of studies developed in Thailand. It was very interesting what was pointed out. If the teacher motivates the students, they will participate more and thus improve their speaking fluency. Teachers also need to consider how much time they will take to teach theory because if they spend the entire class trying to cover the theory, there will be no time for students to practice.

When teaching speaking, if students are afraid of making mistakes, teachers can encourage and support them (rapport). Besides, we learn from mistakes. If a student makes a mistake, the teacher can give feedback and constructive criticism. Various activities can be carried out during the class to encourage speaking development.

Community language learning can be put into practice here. Groups can be formed and students can talk about a certain topic and give their opinions. I believe that teachers just need to be creative and enthusiastic so that students want to participate and thus learn and improve their speaking skills. I admire all teachers for your effort and dedication!

And with this I say goodbye, see you. 馃憢
