Blog entry 3- Period 2

 HIYA! ✊

Do you remember what we've been talking about these days? Exactly! Lesson planning. We have learned about the PPP lesson plan, but this time we learned about the PDP lesson plan.

This PDP lesson plan, in comparison to the PPP, is for listening and reading comprehension classes. Instead of having the presentation, practice and production as in the case of the PPP, in the PDP we have the pre, during and post.

We always start with the warm up activity, something simple that helps either to introduce a topic or to review something already seen in class.

Then we have the pre, the time to activate or set the schemata. Here, as teachers, we have to get all students on the same page. Everyone must be focused or must have the same thing in mind which in this case would be the topic being taught. In this step the new vocabulary is taught (between 5 to 10 words) and these words have to coordinate with the audio or with the reading paragraph that is shown.

In the during part, main or specific ideas are shown. This is where we can show the reading paragraph or the audio. It is important to note that the comprehension exercises should be done individually and that the objective of the lesson plan is carried out here.

In the post section, we have to be very creative. We can do different activities as long as they are related to the theme, of course. In this part, we can also develop a follow up activity, which is an activity that starts in one class but ends in the next one. Lastly we have the wrap up in which the students must show what they learned from the class.

It is important to point out that there is no problem if the post and wrap up are not covered due to timing.  The during part is where the objective is developed so it's okay if we only get to work up to that point.

To conclude I just want to remind you that the PPP is for speaking and writing lessons and the PDP is for listening and reading. Without further ado, I'll say goodbye. See you next time! 😉
