Hello! Knock, knock Who’s there? Justin Justin who? Just in time for the last entry! I can't believe we are already done with classes! It was such a great, fun and exciting experience. I have realized that the job of a teacher is not as easy as it seems, but every effort is worth it when you see how the students are learning and progressing more and more. My group was the first to start the class, we thought there would be few students showing up like in the past classes but I was surprised to see a few students there that I haven't seen in a long time lol.  We explained or rather gave a review on telling time and the use of there is and there are.  I noticed that students preferred to ask their questions personally rather than in front of the whole class while we were doing a written activity. I liked that they asked questions, it made me feel that they were willing to learn.  I was surprised that we finally met the stipulated time, yay! At the beginning of the seme...

Hello from the other siiiiide 🎵 of the screen  Hey there, welcome to another fabulous post! This week we had groups 5 and 6  — we are almost at the end omg —  teaching the classes.  To begin with, what time is it? Oh right, it's time for me to tell you about what group 5  — Dani's group —   taught. Drum roll... 🥁they talked about the time!  To break the ice, they started with a warm-up activity. They played the human knot, which I found super fun and effective to start the class in a good mood.   They used the song El baile del sapito as the suggestopedia; by the way, I didn't know there was an English version, how funny lol. They started the class with 4 students so Jaime, Maru, Joaquin and Keneth helped as students as well.  Fernando began by explaining the difference between clock and watch, numbers, a.m. and p.m., types of clocks (analog and digital), etc. As he taught, Fernando looked very passionate.  Then an activity was c...

G'day! 😉 For these classes I got demoted from teacher to student 😬 There were so few students, only three! Our classmates asked Gustavo, Eunice and me if we could help them by participating as students, so that's what we did.  First to teach the class was Jonathan's group; they teached about the simple present. Josh started by showing a chart with the structure and examples. Subject + verb (in base form) Next, Jonathan carried out an activity. There were two images in the presentation slides, Jonathan said the action and we had to say which one was correct, the one on the left or the one on the right. For example, there was a girl working on her computer and taking notes in a notebook on the left and a boy watching tv on the right. He asked which one is doing homework, so we said the one on the left and so on. Then the teachers explained daily routines and their meaning and gave us each a worksheet where we had to answer the questions according to the video they played. ...

Yo! How's it going? We reached the final round dun duh duh duh duh 🎺it is both the final round of the semester -last registration- and last round of classes we will be teaching. Again, I was unable to attend class due to an emergency but I will write about what my classmates have told me.  So, the first group to develop the class was Noé's group and they taught vocabulary about daily routine and adverbs of frequency. They gave the students worksheets, worked in groups, repeated the sentences aloud and had the students participate and put into practice what they had seen before.                              The second group was Maru's group and they focused on teaching grammar, specifically the simple present affirmative. They did different activities that were very entertaining and helped to put into practice the topic explained.                    ...

Bonjour, my people! The last groups were in charge of teaching the class, groups 7 and 8 respectively. Unfortunately, I was not able to go to class as I was feeling sick, but my friends told me about the classes so I will try to write according to what they told me. So Miriam started, she showed numbers and objects and asked the students if they knew how to say them in English.  As a warm-up activity, Fernando performed the head shoulders knees and toes game.  Miriam would put up a picture and ask if they knew how to say the object that appeared. The teachers would say the word out loud and ask the students to repeat it; they focused on pronunciation. Then María taught the numbers, their pronunciation, emphasizing the -teens and -ties.  Nathaly carried out a game of journalists and stars with the students. The journalists asked questions to the stars and then switched roles. And a t the end, Fernando would ask what they had learned and that was the wrap up of their ...

Conference

Hi, fellas! Another day, another entry; however, this entry will be a bit different. Since this time we had the Semana de la Traducción e Interpretación going on, we were invited to participate in a lecture given by Dr. Nelson López Rojas, our former literature translation professor.  Only those in charge of delivering the class to our students were staying in the classroom, obviously, and the rest of us went to the multifunctional building, room A-01. By the way, I thought they said room A-10 and got lost looking for it, how embarrasing.   When I finally made it into the room, I took a seat and noticed it was a small room. I was given a paper where they told me I could write any question or inquiry I had. As time passed by, the room was getting full of students and it was such a good thing because I considered the conference to be very fulfilling.  Dr. López started by introducing himself and his work. What I liked the best was that he lent us the books he tra...

Hey! What's up?  Another week in which we continue with the classes, yay! This time it was the turn of groups 3 and 4 to develop the class. I loved how both groups performed in the class, I don't think they were nervous or if they were it didn't show. They did super well, wow! The first group (Noe's group) was in charge of teaching listening skills. I loved the material they used. For starters they gave out nametags which was an excellent idea, they used videos that specifically talked about their topic and gave lots of examples and got the students involved.  The teachers introduced themselves and showed the topic they were going to talk about: Greetings, spelling & verb to be in the affirmative. As a warm-up activity, they played an audio and handed out worksheets to all the students.   The audio described objects and the students had to match the number of the audio with the correct word I think. For example, the first audio described a big blue whale and o n ...
