Teaching Speaking

Well, hello there! 馃憖 How's life treating you? I hope you're doing well.  You know, in class there are different types of students. There are students who are outgoing and like to participate and there are others who are just the opposite. They are quiet, shy and don't like to participate (that's me haha). When teaching a language, it is necessary for them to practice it in order to improve their skills. But, if they are afraid to participate, how are they going to improve?   This topic caught my attention and I did some research and I found a series of studies developed in Thailand. It was very interesting what was pointed out. If the teacher motivates the students, they will participate more and thus improve their speaking fluency. Teachers also need to consider how much time they will take to teach theory because if they spend the entire class trying to cover the theory, there will be no time for students to practice. When teaching speaking, if students are afra...

Body language & coordination, and improvisation

Hello there! 馃憢 New topic alert! That day I could not be in class because I had health problems, but I will try to give my point of view on this topic. According to what my classmates told me, that day they did several activities let's say body activities. They didn't have to exercise or anything like that, but they used their bodies.  The first thing was to make eye contact with the person in front of you while keeping a straight face and to be honest, that's impossible for me. It's easier to catch a fly than to keep a straight face. I'm very giggly, not to mention looking someone in the eye. If I hold eye contact for too long I get nervous and look away quickly. They also had to maintain eye contact as they walked around the room. That's something I couldn't do, I'm very clumsy and would most likely have tripped or fallen flat on my face on the floor. Second, they had to express emotions with their face and body. I only show two emotions: happy and ne...

Voice Projection

Hello there! ✋ In this past class, we didn't cover a lot of theory per se, but we did different activities. The truth was a bit difficult for me because my tone of voice is soft. Do you already have an idea of the topic? That's right, we talked about... VOICE PROJECTION! 馃憚   First of all, we did exercises with our voice as well as imitations. We watched a video of the imitations that take place in the soap opera Betty la fea, which made me laugh. I guess that actors have a good control of their voices to express so many emotions and they are also good at imitating other people's voices and even gestures. The first exercise we did was basically about that: imitation. Us women imitated a man’s voice, I think I did pretty good although it was really funny. Men had to imitate a woman’s voice so they spoke in a high-pitched tone. Then we all had to imitate a child's voice and I feel like that one was easier because they speak high-pitched and my voice is already like t...

Describing teachers

Hello! 馃槂 How have you been these days? I hope you have done well in your evaluations! Now it is time to start a new register, the last register of the semester. In register 2 we were describing students, now it will be the other way around, we will describe teachers.  Teachers play an important role in society. They are the ones who transmit knowledge, values, skills and virtues to students. The school is the students' second home as they spend most of their day there. That is why teachers become an important part of students' lives; they can become role models. But how can we describe teachers? These are the aspects to take into account: -         Teacher’s role in the classroom The role of teachers in the classroom is to impart knowledge, as I mentioned before. Teachers are the top authority in the classroom.   -         As an organizer in prior a lesson Teachers should prepare in advance to tea...
